Dual-use technologies

THALES AVIONICS has staked out its global leadership positions by building on a wide array of technologies, developed in-house and often used in dual (civil/military) applications:

Through its subsidiary Thales Avionics LCD, THALES AVIONICS is the only company in the world with its own in-house LCD supply source. Diehl Avionik Systeme GmbH, a joint venture of Diehl Group and THALES AVIONICS, provides the symbol generator. Thales Avionics thus offers a complete family of liquid crystal displays and instruments, used extensively on airplanes and helicopters around the world.

A specialist in laser gyro inertial reference systems, THALES AVIONICS produces navigation and guidance systems for a number of aerospace applications, from fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft to Ariane launchers.

THALES AVIONICS's GPS product line is very successful, particularly on Airbus and Boeing jetliners (as an integral part of the MMR), the Tiger helicopter and for EGNOS and GALILEO.

To meet the increasingly demanding requirements of modern air combat, THALES AVIONICS has called on its expertise in both optics and position detection to develop a family of Helmet-Mounted Sight/Displays (HMS/D) for both fixed and rotary-wing military aircraft. The key to mission success, these lightweight helmets feature a modular design and a sharper image.
