Project / ISAS / Weather

ISAWARE II aims at giving situational awareness of potential weather conflicts, for example location of severe turbulence, thunderstorms, rain and hail intensities and windshear ocations. ISAS will also provide warnings and alerts concerning wake vortices of other aircraft. Therefore a Weather Radar (WXR) model with windshear and a wake vortex detection capability will be applied.

The weather radar model is mainly used to detect and localise various types of atmospheric disturbances and windshear events in the area.

These disturbances are shown to the crew members on the NDs (Navigation Displays) with different colours; the windshear events are located with the help of red and black icons. Specific alerts are provided to the crew with aural annunciations and red or amber messages displayed on the PFD (Primary Flight Display).
